In 2016, Rescuing Health helped John Sheffey with his transportation costs. He needed financial help buying gas to be able to go to his doctor’s appointments after his second kidney transplant at age 75. The cost associated with his first transplant had depleted all his financial resources, which he had built over 52 years of working as The Bell Captain and Tour Director at the Abingdon Martha Washington Inn in VA. With the funds raised by Rescuing Health on his behalf, his family was able to drive him to his checkups at the UT Medical Center.
Steve Hendricks needed financial help with medical supplies, as he had a tracheostomy and severe disability after an accidental overdose in 2018. Steve was a chef who had been suffering from depression. His wife, a nurse, quit his job to care for him. He was unable to speak, move and feed himself. With the loss of both incomes and the slowness of Medicaid enrollment, the family of 6 was about to be evicted. With the financial and logistical help from Rescuing Help, the Hendricks family was able to move into a Section 8 Rental and avoided homelessness.
